In 1995, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort to benefit the children of her home county in east Tennessee. Dolly wanted to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by giving each child one free, age-appropriate book per month from birth to age 5.
The program has seen phenomenal success and has grown to over 72 million free books delivered throughout 4 countries. Canada is one of these countries, and Mission is one of these communities.
For the past 7 years, the Rotary Club of Mission (Sunrise) has sponsored 100 children on an ongoing basis to receive these wonderful books which are delivered every month. Statistics solidly show that children who are exposed to books at an early age have better outcomes in many domains throughout their lives. We are changing the world - one child and one book at a time!
